Below are some work-in-progress-renderings of one of the sets for my animated science fiction short film Echoes.
If you have not seen the concept design for this set you can check it out here.
I had to change some things when I modelled the room in 3D, because of the lack of time and because I felt that some details did not come out very well in 3D. But on the whole I tried to capture the overall look of the design. Also, some of the details got lost during the exporting process from one application to the other and there are some artefacts (things that should not be there), but I will fix it later, as it is just an exporting problem.
In the last picture, I’ve applied some rough textures to test how it would turn out once the rusty look was applied.
Feel free to comment and tell me what you think about it 🙂
Looks great! I especially love the shadows in the far left. Do you know any good, free animation software for extreme beginners to use?
Thank you 🙂 And yes, many people use Blender, which is an open source 3D programme. I did not use it myself, because I learnt other 3D packages in school, but from what I have read so far, Blender seems to be have a lot of features – and it’s free. Check out the Blender film called “Tears of Steel” http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=R6MlUcmOul8
Looks great so far! Think the concept design is wicked :D.
What I especially love in the concept image is how gritty the environment is. If I was to say anything to improve it, it would be to create some gritty, rough, metal bump maps when you get more into the textures.
Also love in the concept design all the details of extra sources of light. Good luck with the rest of the project.
Thank you very much, I’m glad you like it. And I am still testing some ways of texturing it. One possibility, besides dumb maps, is going exactly the other route, which means giving it a painterly look. But one way or another, there will be more rust! 🙂
