This is the first illustration I drew for my children´s book called Below the Floor, which will be a fantasy story with creatures living – well, below the floor.
From the vertical line on the left of the big image you can tell that I drew it into my sketchbook as I want to give the whole story some kind of “journal feeling“. There will be – apart from the text of course – black and white illustrations like this as well as watercoloured images. I´m going the extra mile here as rendering pictures in this old fashioned book illustration style (especially if there are big images) demands much more time than drawing in a modern rendering style. But I think that it will be worth it. 🙂
The before mentioned illustration is a side character in the book: The speaking, crumpy door knocker who loves to annoy Leto, the little hero of our story.
What do you think about this character? Feel free to post a comment below!
I like the illustration and I like the idea of a grumpy door-knocker that annoys people!
