Remember the Abandoned Sanctuary? At the the same time I drew it, I also played around with another idea: What would a giant alien tree look like. And what would I do if I found one? Clearly, build a treehouse somewhere on top of it! To be protected of the predators who live on the ground.
When I drew this, somewhere between October 2005 and May 2006 (this is the date of the sketchbook), I wanted to put some HR Giger elements in it. Just for fun. But I did not want to go overboard with it, the main structure should look alien, but still have the feeling of a tree.
And here is John’s house.
What do you think about it? Feel free to leave a comment! 🙂
Great design to this very strange and alien looking tree. There are certainly hints of H R Giger about it, it’s really good!

Thank you very much, Paul. And yeah, I definitely wanted to give it a little bit of a Giger-touch 🙂

Do you illustrate your own stories? What I saw on this post would make for interesting chapter illustrations.

Hi Robert, I was thinking of doing a story with black and white illustrations as my next project, I am just not sure which one to choose. It will be either a postapocalyptic story or a fairytale. But I have to finish the fairytale-book “Below the Floor” first, which has 50 coloured illustrations 🙂
PS: Please excuse my late reply 🙂
