It was time for another cutout illustration. This time….the Batman!
Everything starts with a sketch. I wanted to go for the classic cartoon look. I loved the simplified look from the 90s television show. If you have seen some of my other sketches, you might know that I usually use a lot of ink pen lines in my illustrations. Creating something without lines, just relying on shapes, is a great challenge.
Cutting the needed paper parts:
This kind of cutter is not the best choice when it comes to creating paper illustrations, but it gets the job done. The good thing is: It forces you to keep the shapes simple, which in this case serves the look a lot.
…And the final illustration, glued into one of my sketchbooks.

That’s a great Batman done papercut style, looks like a lot of fun to put together. You should do a few more comic book characters! 🙂

Thank you, Paul. It *is* really fun creating these illustrations. Even though some of them take long hours to finish, like Guinevere. And, who knows, maybe I will do something more out of these. At the moment it is just fun and experimentation. Hm, some comic book characters… that does not sound bad.. 🙂

You’re welcome. Great to see something new and different like this with some of my favourite comic book characters. You clearly put lots of time and care into this, looks great! I think you should do more, the rest of the JLA perhaps, or Spider-Man? That’d be fun 🙂

This is super cool. Usually when you pop up in my feed, posts relate to your kids book – this is so different- you are versatile, and that’s pretty cool.
