Finally the proof of the hardcover version of my fantasy children`s book, Below the Floor (or: “Das Dorf unter dem Fußboden”, as the book will be published in German first), has arrived.
It looks good. 🙂 I chose a higher quality paper, because I did not want the back of the pages to shine through. I also did not choose the glossy papers which seem to be “in” nowadays in coloured children`s books, but I went for a matt paper instead. Just like the books I had in my childhood. 🙂
There are still some colour issues on the cover and some interior pages, but these can be fixed. Nearing the finishing line…
What do you think? Feel free to leave a comment below. 🙂

Brilliant! The book looks great, you must be so pleased. Good choice to go with the matt paper I think rather than glossy. The illustrations look lovely as well 🙂

Thank you, Paul. Yes, I love the matt paper. Was holding “Batman vs Predator” from the 1990s in my hands yesterday, the old papers have such a cool feeling to them. 🙂

Yes it does, you can’t beat the quality of the old papers, much better. 🙂

Yes, it is nice to finally hold something in your hands that is not far away from getting finished. After all the work that has gone into creating it. 🙂

I absolutely love the cover, especially the ”stitch’ idea on it. I also like the way the chapter index is laid out. Nice work! Congratulations! 😀

Thank you very much, Kesja. The idea for the stitches actually came up by accident. 🙂 The graphic designer who did the technical check-up of my illustrations did not like my illustration for the cover, because the initial version had a thinner blue stripe running down the spine (ending where the cover folded). He said that during the printing of the cover this edge can move slightly to the left or the right (from the spine) and therefore this blue stripe would not be aligned correctly any more. So I made this stripe broader and “stitched” onto the cover 🙂

I think it was a good decision, gives it a look of a handbound book

You’ve certainly come a long way since I last visited. I had a site but had to delete it due to some circumstances but glad i found you again. (You probably don’t remember me heh).
I love the book design and i love that it’s in hardcover version as that is what I also like in novels but story telling comes first ofourse so it doesn’t matter either way. Lovely to read your work again.
