Buffy the vampire slayer – WIP

Do you remember the 90s TV show Buffy the vampire slayer, created by Joss Whedon? As a teenager, I loved the series because it featured a cool new monster every week, like back in the days (first seasons) when The X Files were still cool. And when I was thinking about creating a new cutout illustration, I thought: why not Buffy?

Just in case you are wondering now, here is a little fan-video created by thedothatgirl:

I believe that it is extremely important that you work on your own projects even when you have little to no time. The last weeks have been very busy, as I am working as a freelancer again and the current animation project has a huge workload. Once everything is done, I am sure that it will look cool. But this is mainly the reason why I am late again with my blog post. :/

So back to Buffy. As with all the cutout illustrations, it starts with a quick sketch in one of my sketchbooks. I tried out a few ways to draw her face with different levels of abstraction.

Then on it goes cutting the needed pieces.

Cutting some strands of hair…

I guess that you already get an idea of how it will look like once it is finished.

So… have a nice weekend and I wish you that you can make some time for your projects. 🙂

  1. This is fun! Yeah, I really enjoyed watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer as well, it was a great series. Like you say, always so many different monsters in it to keep Buffy and the Scooby gang busy 🙂

  2. I not only remember Buffy but I lived it on a daily occasion many years ago. It is a timeless classic tv series that will live on in history. (Also having such a great opening theme tune). The paper cut out looks good. It’s a great idea. If somehow you can manage to make them standing they would look great on a shelf display as a collection too. I hope everything with the childrens book is going well. ☺

    • I can fully understand that. Buffy was awesome. And the cutout version of Guinevere is still standing behind my desk. 🙂 Oh, and thank you for asking, my children`s book is finally printed 🙂
