I did this illustration a while ago, when I was writing Below the Floor, my illustrated fantasy children´s book. I was thinking about the knautbolds, a fierce but good-hearted tribe of tiny warriors. I had this idea for a backstory for one of these knautbold warriors – and how his life would eventually end.

Below you can see the scribble of the cover idea: The knautbold finally faces the malevolent dark fairy, a Phran.

This story was never meant to be a children´s book story. I thought of it more like a story for young adults – due to the content of the story. I thought, it might be too scary for children.
